As of May 10, 2017, there has been an increase of 65% more players placed on the Disabled List as compared to the same period in 2016. Here are some details.

Number of players on the DL as of 5/10/2017-183

2017 DL stays-244
2016 DL stays-147

2017 batters on the DL- 98
2017 pitchers on the DL-146

2016 batters on the DL-62
2016 pitchers on the DL-85

32 DL stays have been for 15 or less days. I'm going to say these represent the new 10 day DL stays which is a little surprising as I would have expected the 65% increase to be primarily made of the 10 DL stays. But you can clearly see that in 2017 thus far,  the number of pitchers landing on the DL is a 71% increase from the 2016 season.
