HELLO
TedRoethke,
Well today's vote on the Hall Of Fame with the election of Andre Dawson perplexes me to no end. As per our discussion awhile back. A player whines, campaigns long enough, & if the writers like you. You are in or so it seems. Dawson: one great season and in Wrigley Field at that does not equal the Hall Of Fame. Lifetime average .279, OBP .320(yikes for a so called power hitter) OPS of a little over .800(UGH). Dawson was a very good player, but the numbers don't lie. Hall Of Famer? Andre should have not gotten a sniff. No Roberto Alomar, No Barry Larkin, NO Ron Santo, No Tim Raines, No Lee Smith, but Andre Dawson? I am old school Batting Average matters and it is the major component of OBP. But an On base percentage of .323? Well nuff said about that. An OPS of a little over .800. Dawson was an outfielder. Jeter's OPS are better than Dawson's and he is a shortstop. The last few years elections make no sense to me. Can someone please explain to me what made and makes Andre Dawson a Hall Of Famer besides the fact he was popular with his team mates? Let us go full circle elect Dave Kingman and be done with it!! Just joking. I am sorry Ted. The Hall is supposed to be for the creme de la creme in my opinion. Dawson was good, but come on. Please explain this to me if you can? I know I can be very difficult on my views regarding the Hall Of Fame, but Andre Dawson? Fred McGriff's stats dwarf Dawsons in every category except Stolen Bases. How many of us and be truthful. Thought Dawson was a Hall Of Famer during his playing days? I sure didn't.
