All-Star (Starter) Posts: 1055 (01/16/09 06:36 PM) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : windows, vista, 64-bit, install, season, decompress, error, windows 7 If you have installed Diamond Mind Baseball 9c on a system running Windows Vista or Windows 7 and you have followed the Windows Vista/7 compatibility instructions, which can be found on the version 9 patches page, the game should be functioning correctly. However, depending on whether you have the 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows, you may still run into problems installing season disks using DMB's built-in Install season disk feature. Unfortunately, the Install season disk function (File menu) is not compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows and attempting to use it will result in an error message. Most commonly, "Unable to decompress sd2008.exe" or something very similar depending on which season you are attempting to install. (If you are getting an "Unable to build database indexes" error see this topic.) To check which version of Windows Vista/7 you have, click the Windows Start button, right-click on Computer and then select Properties from the context menu that appears. The System type will be either 32-bit or 64-bit. This issue will be resolved in the next update to Diamond Mind, but in the meantime it is necessary to use a work-around to install a season disk on systems with the 64-bit version of Windows. In the "Create new database" dialog, enter a name for the new database and either click OK to accept the suggested location or change the location and then click OK. A message box will appear notifying you when the database has been created. 2. Click File on the DMB menu bar and select Restore. When the Open dialog appears, click on the Look in box located near the top of the window to select the folder location where your season disk file is saved. In the example below, the "sd2008.alt" file has been saved to the Desktop. If your season disk file is saved to another location you would select that location. For example, if your season disk file was delivered on a CD, you would select the CD/DVD Drive option from the pull-down list. Note: Once you have chosen the folder location, the season disk file(s) saved there will not be immediately visible. 3. To make the season disk file visible, enter `""` into the File name* field and click the Open button. This will make all files in the folder visible. 4. Choose the season disk file that you want to install and click Open again. DMB season disks that have been delivered by email will have an `".alt"` file name extension (e.g. SD2008.alt) whereas season disks that have been delivered on a CD will have an "`.exe"` file name extension (e.g. SD2008.exe). DMB will work with either type of file without modification. A message will appear prompting you to copy over the existing player files. Choose "Yes". Another message will be displayed when the restore process has completed. If at this point you get an "Unable to build database indexes" error, see this topic for the solution. Alternatively, you can contact Pat and arrange to receive updated copies of your season disks which are in formats earlier than version 9. 1) Create a new, empty database (File > Create new empty database). Enter a name for the new database and make a note of it. For example, if you are installing the All-time Greatest Teams #1 disk you might choose to name the database "AGT1". When you create a new database in DMB the game creates a folder for the database in the dmb9 folder on your hard drive (e.g. "C:\dmb9\AGT1"). Close DMB before moving on to step 2. 2) Copy the season disk installation file (e.g. "agt1.alt" or "agt1.exe") to the newly created database folder ("C:\dmb9\AGT1"). 3) Change the file extension of the install file from .alt (or .exe) to .zip. For example, rename "agt1.alt" to "agt1.zip". If you are unable to see the file name extensions because windows has hidden them (it does this by default), click here to see how to make the file name extensions visible on your system. 4) Right-click on the zip file and choose "Extract all" from the popup menu. Make sure that the folder that the files will be extracted to matches the new database folder that you created (e.g. "C:\dmb9\AGT1"). 5) When prompted, choose to "Copy and Replace" for files with the same name. Check the box near the bottom to repeat this action for all file name conflicts. 6) Start up DMB. If the new database isn't active switch to it using the Change active database command (File menu).
