This community just keeps amazing me. So now you have decided to spread your disdain on other forums throughout the internet. I think Dan just wants some downloads but I think I'll be sticking to DMB's projections as long as they continue especially since almost everyone I've talked to was against using his disk since it had no splits. Of course the engine itself has natural lefty vs. righty splits and so forth but that isn't remotely realistic. There is nothing intelligent about his analysis, he just ran to his site to bash him.

Well I know ColonelTom from a league I'm in and I liked his post.
The guy generalizing every sim player as a whiney, 50 year old...well I don't remember exactly but that was pretty uncalled for.
Some people made some accurate comments (in my opinion) like every forum has jerks and those who think Dayne sold them out are ungrateful.
Yeah I read the whole thing and don't see to much intelligent analysis of the situation. I was mostly speaking about Dan who just opens up a thread to dump on Dayne and say his product will always be there for people if they want it. Dan says Dayne is horrible at PR, needs thicker skin and someone said any business that allows online customer complaints to factor into business decisions is doomed. Where was the intelligent analysis? Seemed to be a whole lot of speculation about motives and how Dayne just strung the whole community along to get what he wanted. If the whole "open source" conversation kept going then maybe I could agree but no I don't see it. Sorry.
Edit: One last note from just my own experience, businesses do listen to online complaining as long as it's not ridiculous. You get a lot of ridiculous e-mails and phone calls working in a restaurant but my experience is companies will listen to those who aren't being belligerent. I don't have the experience many of you do but every place I have worked has spent a good deal of time and money on using the internet for judging customer opinion and making decisions based at least partially off of it. That is speaking about businesses that have nothing to do with the internet. A company like IS probably weighs those customer complaints/suggestions even more so.
You know the one thing I will agree with; I do find it odd Dayne keeps saying Tom told him basically to let the forum vent and get involved as little as possible. I'm not sure his exact quote but I'm curious if that is true. I don't know Tom and wasn't around when he was but that is some peculiar advice. I don't think the owner is obligated to join a message board and answer every question the community has or hold chats or even write monthly newsletters but he did make attempts at all of those things rearguards of how that conversation between Tom and Dayne went. I don't think anyone should hold ill feelings towards Tom but then again I don't think anyone should hold ill feelings towards Dayne either so don't listen to me. Edit #2: Darn grammatical errors.

Trying not to sound like a broken record here, but thank you for the work you do on the ZiPS disks, Dan. And thanks for your explanation of the DIPS issue and your answers a while back about the splits question. A lot of people (and not just ones who play DMB) appreciate your ZiPS disk, and just as many respect it. Since you make it available for no cost, I can only surmise that it really is a labor of love.

I'd have to say the idea is to do whatever he feels like since he does it on his own and provides it for the community freely.

Yeah I think it's noble of you to put the disk out for free because I'm sure it takes a good bit of time you could spend on other things. I ran a few sims with your disk while I awaited the decision of my league on whether or not to use it and it seemed fine. I'm not sure which is a more accurate disk since the engine itself is so random but there were some differences. I'm simply commenting on your comments about Dayne and why the people in my league didn't want to use it. You could be absolutely right about the whole "it takes 5000-6000 PAs" but the issue appeared to be an important one. I just think it was a little low to start talking down at him like so many others have.

Yes. I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that it was Diesel who verified this. Then someone, I think a fellow from "Replacement Level Yankees," ran a bunch of seasons' iterations with the disk and the results bore out the generic platoon statement.

No that is true, I said that somewhere in this thread. We had a whole discussion about it either on these forums or yours. I just don't know why you leave it up to chance. If I remember correctly, basically the platoon splits took off or added 20 or 40 points depending on the matchup. I don't know what the effects were on power but I guess that depends on the individual ratings (I'm guessing you rate their power against LHP and RHP?). And sorry, no Dan I haven't read that book. Forgot you put that in there when I made my post.
