I've been exchanging email with a gamer about error ratings and how they change from era to era. I thought some of you might find this interesting. I was explaining how on-field error ratings depend on the era used for the game. For example, if a SS is rated an e100 (average) and he played in a game using the 2006N Era, he'd be rated to commit around 11 errors per 100 games. Here's how many errors per 100 games SS commit for the following NL eras:
1894 - 67
1900 - 59
1910 - 45
1920 - 35
1930 - 30
1940 - 25
1950 - 22
1960 - 19
1970 - 18
1980 - 16
1990 - 15
2000 - 12
2006 - 11
I regard this as a big plus for DMB, that a player's error rating for a game depends on the era of the game. In most other games, a player's error rating never changes. For example, a SS rated to commit 11 errors in 2006 will commit 11 in any other era whereas in DMB, play that same player in 1894 and he'll commit around 67 errors per 100 games.
