I finally got my first no DMB no-hitter, and it couldn't have been better for this Giants' fan! It was MATT CAIN!!!! I don't have to tell you guys how incredible an experience this was. From the 3rd inning on, I had a feeling this might be the day. WHOO HOO!

I'm playing the 2006 projection disk. It's May 26, and Matt Cain is 2-3, with 4.54 era as he takes the mound for the Giants against Colorado and Jason Jennings at AT&T.

In Cain's previous outing, he was staked to a 7-0 lead in the top of the first inning at Oakland, but by the bottom of the 4th, Oakland had tied it 7-7, with 6 runs charged to Cain. (Oakland won that game 8-7 in 11 innings).

But this game Cain started out with 4 consecutive strikeouts. He then walked Brad Hawpe and struck out Garrett Atkins, before Jamey Carroll made contact, grounding out to Feliz at third. He walked Yorvit Torrealba to start the third, but then retired the next 10 batters before Cory Sullivan reached on an error by Feliz.

Cain then retired the next 10 (the only threat was a drive by Matt Holliday to the wall in left). With 2 out in the 9th, the Rockies last chance was Todd Helton (Clint Hurdle had Jose Mesa in the on-deck circle to pinch hit for Helton, but suddenly called him back and let Helton hit!)

Helton swung and missed on the first pitch, and took the second pitch for a ball. On the third pitch, he grounded a ball deep into the hole between third and short. Omar Vizquel caught the ball on the grass and nipped Helton by a step!!!! I was absolutely dieing in that 1.5 seconds it takes to watching the PBP.

Cain struck out 8 and threw 120 pitches. Giants won 2-0.

Prior to this, I had a couple of no hitters go into the 7th or 8th, but the best game had been that of Mark Redman of KC.

Redman had a perfect game until he walked Michael Cuddyer of Minnesota with 2 out in the 8th. With one out in the 9th, and Justin Morneau on first with a walk, Shannon Stewart singled to end the no hitter. Then Luis Castillo singled to load the bases. With KC leading only 4-0, Buddy Bell (Ok, me) called in Steve Semle (pitching great for KC for me), but he gave up a two-run double and a sac fly before finally Torii Hunter on a ground out to short, and KC held on to win 4-3.
