Elan - one thing I forgot to ask ... when you stopped the LicCtrl service and started FOF 2007 did the service start back up?  David's notes on this subject indidate the service must be running for the game to run.  The default for this service is automatic, which means it starts on boot-up.  When you shut it down, it's very possible FOF's start up started the service again.   What I'm hoping is once the game is installed and activated, this service can be set to manual (or disabled) and stopped until the next installation.   That would minimize the intrusion and not bother me at all.  It might also alleviate the concerns others have, particularly those who are on the fence because of this resource intrusion.

The bigger issue and deal killer for me is the inability to protect my Version 10 data.  Unless I have a fail-safe way to install version 10 again or the means to back up my version 10 data in version 9 format, I won't upgrade.  I know I've said that a couple times already and repeating it is surely getting pedantic, but I keep saying it on the chance (misguided probably) that someone who can do something to provide hope gets the message and speaks up.  "Trust us we'll take care of you" is the only hope we've heard so far.  I suspect you can understand when I say based on the last several years track record "trust us" ... is ... well ... not being mean here... just not particularly satisfying

Thanks for checking on the LicCtrl thing.  That was nice of you to do.
