Abdel - I'm hesitant to say much more on this topic. I don't want to leave the impression I'm bashing the company. The only reason I spoke up is I am concerned and disappointed. I was looking forward to version 10 and now I'm not sure.
To answer you question ... the current distribution plan whether you buy your game from the download store, or have a CD sent to you is for the installation to include an e-License control panel applet to be included in the installation. That applet will run resident as a Windows service. DMB will neither install, nor run without the service running.
Immediately after you install DMB, you will be asked to input a key code. The key code will activate the e-License service and it will look for an internet connection. The internet connection will go to the e-License server and confirm the key code and name you inputted is correct. You'll be able to install the program on X computers (X still to be determined). My suspicion is the number of installs will be liberal (probably as many as 10, provided the installation is occurring from the same IP address).
Naturally a resident service will consume Windows resources, though I suspect it won't be all that many. I have a friend running E-License with another game and I asked him to check the resource demand for me.
The purchased download will be good for as long as you have a copy of it. It's the ability to activate your installation that worries me. I am willing to accept the resource hit and the activation process provided I can save my finished replay data in version 9 format. That way I can always install version 9 and access my data. I'm willing to pay for a utility that allows me to convert version 10 data to version 9 data. I'm also willing to pay significantly more for updates that are e-License free. Without those options, I'm very hesitant to upgrade. Version 9 is good enough and hassle free. Very disappointing.
