And before I move onto the pitchers, I would like to mention one more thing.  I am pretty much just looking at OPS+ as far as value is concerned.  Catcher is the most important defensive position other than the pitcher, so defense plays an important role here.  The reason that I do not consider fielding is I do not have a reliable way to rate it, especially once we get before the Retrosheet era and all we have are basic counting stats.  Furthermore, if I did have a reliable way to value fielding, I still do not know how that would compare to the offensive numbers.  Is a bad defensive catcher with a 100 OPS+ more or less valuable than a defensive star that hauls around a 78?  I have no idea.  If I were to guess, I would say on average that the omitted players with the highest OPS+ are probably the worst fielders and vice-versa, though there may be exceptions, perhaps many of them.
