Extending the logic. As for Jim Palmer and Mike Flanagan: if they haven't spoken up for Bert Blyleven, Tim Raines, Dick Allen, and others (and perhaps they have), what do they have against these guys? Are they being HOF snobs?

I don't think they were asked

As for rjb182, that's a very intelligent and well-written response.

Rice did have the most total bases from 1975-1986, that's got to have a tremendous effect on a team's offence. Also, some people talk about these players being "feared", and the numbers guys scoff at that. But if a hitter, such as Rice & Dawson, is 'feared' that would effect how opponents approach and pitch to the rest of the lineup, guys in front of them see better pitches etc., maybe players like Rice & Dawson should get some credit for the OBP's of the players batting ahead of them? That's a value that just can't be calculated.
