Just as an addendum to this conversation, Dawson actually does better in the "arm wars" if you add his time in center field. That gets him to 152 assists, in the same ballpark as Barfield and Evans. But:

1) They still had a few more assists in less outfield playing time than he did,

2) Just based on what I know of their reputations, I still believe their arms were more feared than Dawson's, and

3) I'm not sure "Best outfield throwing arm of his generation among those who split time between center and right" is really a thing, even if it was accurate. He wasn't the best in center or in right. It's interesting that he was pretty good at both, but do we really want to hang a Hall of Fame case on that?
