Dayne,
Thanks for the update and I, like others, are anxiously awaiting information on the PC game's future direction.
I'd like to take a moment, as a longtime DMB customer to voice my opinion on some of the more angry and negative posts that have been appearing with increasing frequency on this board. This may sound strange to some but, as a business man, you should feel heartened by the passion that your PC customers have for your game. It may be difficult to feel all warm and tingly when reading a post that is accusing you of all sorts of crimes against DMB/PC-Nation but hear me out.
The anger and frustration is only possible when there is a strong emotional attachment to a product. That is clearly the case with those who frequent this message board. I absolutely have such an attachment. I have been playing baseball sims since the early 60's and there has simply never been another game, in my opinion, that re-creates the baseball experience as genuinely as does DMB. The "feel," of the game is beyond realistic. I can't imagine a greater compliment for a baseball sim than that.
This game means a lot to me on another, more personal level as well. My son and I began playing it back in 1999, when he was 10 years old. I was amazed that he was so enthralled with a text based sim given the proliferation of video games. He liked video games too but he loved playing DMB. He is 19 years old now and away at college but he still plays DMB on his long train rides from NYC (yes he is going to school in the land of the Evil Empire
). We still enjoy talking about the latest solo league he has started or the progess of my pathetic team in the DMB league he used to co-manage with me. So, for me, the game serves as a connection to my son as we have shared it since he was a small boy and continue to do so as he grows into a young man.
We love baseball. DMB allows us to participate in the sport we love in a very entertaining and realistic-feeling way. I have thanked Tom Tippett a few times over the years for the game he created and worked so hard to evolve. That he was able to parlay that labor of love into his dream job with the (WORLD CHAMPION!!!!) Boston Red Sox is truly a case of justice being served. I couldn't be happier for him.
So, Dayne, as we wait to learn what will happen to our shared and beloved hobby/passion, I just wanted to point out that even the most anger-riddled posts are born of a deep passion and commitment to your product. If we didn't care, if those who are the most frustrated didn't TRULY care, it would be so much easier just to walk away. But we don't...because we think the game is willing to fight for. That should make you feel proud.
Thanks to everyone here who helps remind me why I can't just move on to another game and for your commitment to this community and the game we all so enjoy.
