quotes from Baker:

"But your job in the middle is to either score them or drive them in. The name of the game is scoring runs. Sometimes, you get so caught up in on-base percentage that you're clogging up the bases."

"On-base percentage, that's fine and dandy. But a lot of times guys get so much into on-base percentage that they cease to swing. It's becoming a little bit out of control. "

I think he's right on these quotes. What sense does it make to have your No. 4 and 5 hitters wait out a walk, only to have your (lesser) No. 6 hitter leave them on base? Turn your better hitters loose, swing at a good pitch, get a hit, drive in runs!

And as a fan, it's getting kind of stale to watch deep counts on every batter. It's more entertaining to see the ball put in play and players MOVING.
