I always assumed, FWIW, that the change in fielding variance brought about by the 9c patch meant that there'd be a bigger variance between the effect of, e.g., a VG versus an AV rating, but am not sure how this would impact a specific rating assigned to a specific player; i.e., I don't see how the 9c patch would make it more likely for a guy to be assigned a higher or lower rating than he would receive for the same performance without the patch. FWIW # 2, looking at the Fielding Bible's Plus/Minus ratings for Gonzalez, 2006 versus 2007, there doesn't seem to be a big change in his performance. His performace going to his right improved a good deal between 06 and 07 and went down a good deal going to his left. His overall total for both seasons was a +4. And here's a link to his 2007 rating at the Hardball Times' stats site: http://www.hardballtimes.com/thtstats/main/index.php?view=fielding&linesToDisplay=50&orderBy=zone_rating&direction=DESC&qual_filter=1&season_filter%5B%5D=2007&league_filter%5B%5D=All&pos_filter%5B%5D=6&Submit=Submit Actually rather good overall, with his only weakness (according to THT's numbers) being his fielding of balls outside his zone. I guess we can assume that DMB doesn't get its ratings solely from the Plus/Minus System or THT.
