We've learned a lot about defense in the last ten years, and although no major changes were needed, it was time to make bring the engine in line with what our latest research was telling us. Going forward, the performance spread between range ratings will be a little larger than it was before.

Phew! I'm glad to see this now. I'm in the middle of extending the work I did on the effects of ratings on defensive performance by trying to quantify the effects of all the ratings, and including era adjustments too as I believe the relative importance between individual range and error ratings will change as the era error ratings change. Then the next step will be to turn all of this into a comprehensive player valuation tool.

At this point, the only ratings I'm not going to include are Bunting, Hitter Type, Start/Relief Fatigue, GB%, and Injury.

I'm not sure what to do with Clutch ratings from the results I posted in this thread.

Sounds like I need to hold off on the defensive ratings until 9b is released!
