Besides lack of many "seasons", how does Replay BB (computer version) compare w/ DMB on all fronts?

Jeff in Western WA wrote:I only do asplayed replays with 'Replay', but considering this is the first year it is remarkable. On certain dice rolls you get a rare play which reminds me of the different occurences that can happen playing DMB. Groundballs that advance runners compared to force outs seem realistic, double play grounders seem realistic. I like hearing the crack of the bat, and the cheers for the home team and the player pictures. I like DMB more because of the pitch by pitch option, the great play by play, and it seems more like real baseball. |

Jeff in Western WA wrote: First off, I think replays AI which was added to the first release very late from what I hear is amazing. It is tough to compare since DMB was created as a PC Sim. Replay is the actual board game on the PC. I agree w/ Dusty Baker it has everything DMB has including the right balance of Visuals and sound. I recommend you try the free demo that you can do for 5 days. Comes w/ 2008 season to try. Also download padsfans graphics and sounds to get full scope. I own the 1984 , 2007 and 2008 seasons as well as the 80's decade disk that came out recently. it has 20 great teams from the 80's. Yes all post season teams from 86 are there if you were wondering jeff, lol!

I have Replay, and while it's an excellent product, I'm just having trouble getting into it. Mainly because I think at heart, I'm not a board game
guy.

The one request I have for v10 (and it is now probably too late) is that the batter statistics include stolen bases. There is room on the screen for this
data.

lack of new features?!?!? | ||

I suppose the strength of the ver 10 feature list all depends on what you do with the program. As a solo replayer the fact the ver 10 includes an API is,
potentially, incredible. (I'm tempering my enthusiasm somewhat until I actually see the API since, as we know, "all models are wrong, some models are
useful" and an API is just that, a model of the functionality contained within the program). Anyway ... this will allow me to write a basic computer GM
to handle things such as disabled lists, signing free agents and so on (and to eliminate AutoIt from my scripts running DMB). This, for me, far outweighs any
PBP additions or changes to the UI, etc. To each his own ...

Do any of the programmers around these parts plan on making their respective API's available to those that cannot do such a thing?
Is this even possible? |

Keep kickin' that burro, 'cause to me the biggest hope for useful development and tools lies with the community. If we can't get further major
development from the company (and we can't in the foreseeable future), the next best thing is to unleash devotees who have the skills build AROUND the
product. And we have some pretty good amigos who can do THAT!

Jeff in Western WA wrote: Replay is bug-free, stable, has solid stats, a decent but not outstanding CM, and is a faithful recreation of an enjoyable and accurate board game. The accuracy is probably on a level with DMB. None of the game operates under the hood, so you know all of the factors contributing to the outcome of every play. Much attention is paid to defense. Disadvantages: 1) lack of seasons 2) it's a boardgame at heart, so there's no pbp to speak of. |

DaddyO is right on me thinks, versions after V10 may be slow coming, so incorporating the various add on's of those who can accurately tinker w/ the game
are probobly the reason that DMB will be THE premiere replay game or, gradually lose it's luster as others are improved....

Strat-O-Matic is still tops. I've got DMB and Replay on my hard drive collecting dust. There are many good games out there and hopefully they will be as
good as Strat someday. At the moment, DMB is kind of dull, BBW is boring, and puts me to sleep. Replay is a fun little game that is like a 'toy'
baseball game for kids. The most fun and realistic stats I've had during a replay is with SOM. Maybe there are authorization code problems, but the game
itself is heads and shoulders above the others.

The one thing I do agree with you is that I have other computer games on my hard drive collecting dust that I have not played in awhile and I guess they would fall in that category of dull and boring. At least you'll be able to get a full nights rest. |

Sounds like you will too, (get a full night's rest that is) so sleep tight and don't let the DMB bed bugs bite!

Getting dust anywhere in your computer is not a good thing, but pretty much unavoidable. Always remember: When you defragment, you must also dust. A clean
hard drive is a happy hard drive.

What turned you sour in a few months? Was it the chart disagreement with Pete? Just curious because I just started playing Replay along with DMB. |

Nothing to do with Pete. The Replay game is fun. I like the board game even more than the pc game, but it's just not SOM. There's just something
about it that doesn't feel like real baseball to me, and the stats leave something to be desired. I can see why a lot of people like Replay because
it's simple and quick to play. I need something with some 'substance' to it, so I play Strat when I've got 'serious' games or seasons
to replay. I love to dabble in Replay, APBA and DMB though. All great games. Strat is just my preference after exactly 42 years this month of playing
baseball sims. I guess like the old saying goes, "When something is good, you stick with it or always come back to it."

Hi Boresox.
I hear that. Problem is with me when you like a portion of different games, you wish you could build it into one mega-sim. LOL!!! Eventually if you want to make any headway in completing projects is find the one you love and keep on trucking!! I guess you found your comfort zone. I am still searching and I hope I find it or it finds me.,,, |
