All-Star (Starter) Posts: 1172 (10/16/09 01:14 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None 40 years ago today..... Davey Johnson batting... A fly ball to left field... Squeezed by Cleon Jones... And in the year man landed on the moon, the METS were champions of the world! A great comeback after losing game one -as Buford belted the leadoff homer off Seaver in the Birds 4-1 win, the tough second game the METS win 2-1 as Koosman's 2 hitter even things up, Agee's catche(s) homer and the shutout (Gentry a rookie pitching 6 SHO innings) in game three 5-0 win, a fourth game that made Baltimore FINALLY realize it was the METS year, losing in 10 2-1 on a fine performance by Seaver, helped by Swoboada diving in right field, and then - overcoming the game five defecit in Koosman's 5-3 win! I remember that final game as we had the black and white tv on in the fourth grade at Joyce Kilmer School, complete with rabbit ears and I believe (?) tuned to WOR Channel 9 (The METS TV flagship) instead of NBC to view the final game that October afternoon... Major Leaguer (Reserve) Posts: 308 (10/16/09 07:16 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	That was a great year for NY fans. The Jets won the Super Bowl in January and the Mets won the World Series in October. 2 of the longest shots ever. I wonder what a parley bet on that would have been worth.

Minor Leaguer (AA) Posts: 131 (10/17/09 02:30 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	But a horrible year for Baltimore fans! I hate this sports season like no other. I believe the Knicks took the Bullets out of the NBA playoffs that year as well. I hate New York, everything about New York!

All-Star (Starter) Posts: 1174 (10/17/09 06:39 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	....check out my '68, '69 and '70 replays, those poor Orioles: losing to the longshot Pirates in '68 (who defeated the METS in a playoff for NL Champs), getting it though w/ that '60 team over the Stros in '69 and fnishing 2nd in NL East w/ 102 wins to Yanks 109 in '70!.. I can see why Baltimore didn't look favorably to NY in '69 though....

All-Star (Reserve) Posts: 773 (10/26/09 09:39 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Not to hammer on Boba & Coltsfan but 30 years ago wasn't to good for the denizens of Baltimore either. The We Are Famalee Buccos came from 3 down to win the series and the Colts, led by the 'underated in history- just not 1979' passing duo of Bert Jones to Roger Carr (throw in a little Joe Washington) went 2-14.
