In the custom league I'm currently playing around with, one team was playing Jack Wilson of the Pirates at shortstop and utility infielder Enrique Wilson at third base. I just saw this call:

Williams pitches
popped up
near the third-base line
a chance for Wilson?
or will it be Wilson?
it'll be the third baseman
and he catches it for the out

I was wondering: Is this a special, tongue-in-cheek...

It's really just this one line, but it's PERFECT for this situation -- and location. Florida at home in an extra-inning inter-league game against Seattle 6-7-05, and SS Alex Gonzalez leads off the bottom of the 11th:

up comes Alex Gonzalez
the pitch on the way
lashed to left field
-- a clutch base hit for Gonzalez --
and the crowd comes alive!

Mr. Wood, I get the following every once in a while:

Belliard with a short lead
the 2-2 pitch
a drive to center field
that's over Rowand's head
he can go back and get 'em with the best
and the side is retired

This I think comes always with an EX or VG centerfielder, and my question: is this a range play? You may not know, and if you do you may not be permitted to answer, but I thought I'd ask anyway. One of the fun things about...

I was playing a Legends Baseball League game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox when an unexpected mention to Joe Cunningham appeared in his first at bat. The PBP gave his introduction to the plate but then added "hitting the ball well as of late". He had spent a ten game stint on the Farm Team (minor leagues) and was just brought back up. Does the game engine just not keep track on who may not be in the minors and this may be a random mistake. What would be nice if...

Watching the Phillies vs. the Giants game tonight on Comcast Philadelphia, Saturday 8/1/09 (Blanton vs. Lincecum). Top of the third inning, opposing pitcher Joe Blanton batting against Lincecum, and Blanton hits a one-hopper right back to Tim Lincecum. Phillies PBP guy Tom McCarthy says (emphasis mine):

"Lincecum fields, has plenty of time to look at Bud Selig's name on the ball, and throws over to first to retire Blanton."

Little League Homerun

I saw a "little league homerun" during Saturday's Angels vs. Diamondback game. Aybar bunted and a comedy of fielding miscues brining him flying home. Has anyone ever had or is it even possible for such a rare major league play to transpire in DMB? If so, would Jack call it a "little league homerun."

I just came across this play by play and I think it is not right. There is a runner on first and 2 outs.

stopped
it was in the dirt for ball two
he wishes now that he'd swung
as it rolled into the New York dugout
Campanella makes a quick throw to first
Mantle is back without any trouble

How could Campy throw the ball to first as it should have been dead, and shouldn't Mantle have...
